a tale of two hearts

great marriage advice

Joanna from Cup of Jo is married to Alex - it was their 3 year anniversary a few days ago.

Alex, who is a little older and wiser (just like you), does something really great. If they're in an argument, he says, "I love you" right in the middle.

Below is what he told Jo a few mornings ago - his a wise man indeed.
"The secret to a long and happy marriage is not the idea that nothing bad is ever going to happen. But it's that when something bad happens, you know how to get through it together. One of the most important things is that when you're having an argument, instead of ratcheting up the emotion, you diffuse it. In the middle of a fight, say, "I love you; you're the most important person in the world to me," even if at that moment, those words are the hardest ones to choke out because you're so mad. It reminds you both of the big picture. It doesn't make it instantly better, but it takes it down a notch. And in the cool-down period afterward, you're not left questioning. You know everything is going to be ok. Half an hour after the fight, it's over and you feel good."
How impressive - isn't it such a great idea. It would take so much humility and self control!

And here are some totally unrelated pic's of us in London :)

Actually...maybe the one below is kinda related to the blog...i.e you're looking all old, wise and contemplative :P

honeymoon series: when in rome

I've been preparing my mid-year review at work this week..ekk so much fun :P
I couldn't remember what I'd got up to in the last 7 months so I spent a day and a half trawling through all my emails- exciting I know.

Looking through old holiday photos is way more fun!

Below are a few pics of our first few days as husband and wife.

Can you believe this was over 6 years ago. I love the fact that so many things are just the same now as they were then only a lot more amplified.

Take for instance our little baby...it was just a tiny Sony cyber shot back then. Remember when we bought that 1G memory card from that shop in Rome and we thought "yep we'll never need to by another one again!".

Oh how wrong we were. Just look at it now, it grew from a tiny Sony cyber shot...into a big healthy Nikon D4. So proud!!

And then there is you.  I thought I couldn't possibly love you more...turns out I was wrong about that too!

We arrived, put our bags in the hotel and started walking, turned a corner and found this...hmm...yep we're definitely in Rome!
Left: Ice-cream in front of the Trevi Fountain
In front of the Vatican with Zoran and Mariana...ahh all honeymooners!
Right: At Piatsa Nivona, we'd just bought the painting that we now have hanging in our bedroom!
At Piazza Della Repubblica, having a drink and watching the soccer world cup semi-finals!

His song of grace.

"My beloved spoke and said to me,
"Arise, my darling,
my beautiful one, come with me.
See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit.
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come my darling.
my beautiful one, come with me."

Song of Songs 2:10-14

two best friends

In a few short hours two best friends are going to make promises to each other. They are so serious about these promises that they'll declare them to eachother and in front of all their friends and family and then they'll throw a party to celebrate!!

Love is such a splendid thing :)

dare to love

Seeing your childhood superhero stumble and fall shatters you. No matter how hard you try, there is no way to avoid the pain it causes your heart to feel.

I use to run from that sort of pain when I was younger, now I just realise my heart feels that pain because I love. And that's a good thing.

Thank you honey for reminding me, the pain, the tears and heart break I felt this week are not a sign of weakness, but a sign that I have the courage and capacity to love deeply.

more from trafalga square

I think this was also at trafalga square...it's one of my favourits from the entire holiday :)
Hope you're day's going well-can't wait to see you tonight!

trafalgar square

Trafalgar square with you.
Remember how hard it to get around to the front of that lion...those kids made it look so easy!

this is so sweet...

I was in search of inspiration for chris and emma's wedding when I stumbled across this video...it's so sweet, it made me laugh, smile and made my eyes all watery.

Wedding days are special...but it's the story that brings two people together that makes that one day so magical!

...guess what they were each others first boyfriend and girlfriend too...ohhhh!

I loved the "I was looking all Euro so she loved me" line.

Cause I know you want to see their wedding photos...here they are.

guess who...

Umm...guess who's getting married on Saturday!!

honeymoon series: lake como

Remember this- Lake Como.

I still remember what a foul mood I was in when we got there. You were so sweet. I remember snapping at you and then getting all confused because I didn't know why I was so bothered, you did nothing wrong! And then  finally it occurred to me "ohh I haven't eaten!" Hahaha....genius Tina!

So we went back to our hotel and you made me a nutella sandwich and I was all better.

I also remember getting stung by a wasp when we went out for our first walk along the lake.
I remember watching an old couple feeding the ducks with their grand kids. I remember thinking one day we'll do that together...but maybe not at Lake Como unless we win the lotto between now and then :P
I also remember buying a white pair of shorts (the ones I'm wearing in the pics below) at the markets, I was sooo happy with that find.

The photo on the left...seriously...pig tales...on our honeymoon...like I didn't look young enought already! J why didn't you say anything..?? It cracks me up!

u and an african sunset

On a cruise down the Chobe river watching an African sunset...you'd think the view couldn't get any better and then bam...I see you!
Seriously-just look at you- is it any surprise at all that I want to kiss you as much as I do!

take two

It's take two with babysitting the Morrison clan tonight.
Let's hope it goes better than my first attempt :P

We spotted this cheeky dude as we were driving out of Piermont Retreat in Swansea.

visiting nana

It was great to see your nana that day. So nice to see that she recognised and knew who you were this time.

It's surreal to think just how removed we are in our day to day lives from the reality of death.
We've constructed social and health policies so that we don't have to see it. Out of sight out of mind, I guess.
Although I'm not convinced it's good for us.
I wonder if the choices we all make on a day to day basis would be different if we had our grandparents living at home with us, where we could see their bodies and minds deteriorate before our eyes.

I wonder if it would help us put todays challenges, our dreams, ambitions and worries into perspective?

...hmmm...very cheery thoughts arn't they :p

wineglass bay

It's been a while since I had knots in my stomach day in day out- can’t say I’m a fan. Uni + work...ekk...what was I thinking!!
Deep breaths Tina...only 8 more weeks to go.
I guess like most things in life there is always a bit of pain before you get to the good stuff.
Seriously have a think about it...you can't even see Wineglass Bay without climbing up the hill.
Who knows maybe it's the hill that makes you notice the view and appreciate it for what it is?

I'm really hoping the view at the end of all this study is worth the pain...because right now I feel like I'm climbing up a hill that's getting steeper by the day!
Me just before we get to the top of the hill to see that view...yep I'm feeling like this right now!
